Facilities in Yellowstone Park are being made physically accessible as quickly as possible within funding limitations. Most facilities described in this guide have been judged to be negotiable by wheelchair users without a_ssistance. Those facilities that require a_ssistance for wheelchair users are indicated. Facilities described as accessible do not necessarily comply fully with federal standards. Some accessible facilities are not marked with the international symbol. Yellowstone National Park is one of the most visited, and famous of all the parks. And there is no reason to stay away because anyone is handicapped. They have a good amount of handicapped accessible lodging and vacation activities in Yellowstone National Park. It is not an easy thing to do in a park of this size, with all the wilderness areas, but there are hiking trails and Ranger led activities that are handicapped accessible and let you get a look at some of the most popular sections of the park, for a very enjoyable vacation experience. As the years go by, there will probably be more areas made available, but only if the handicapped population takes advantage of what Yellowstone already offers.
Call the park as far in advance of your vacation trip as possible and let them know exactly what kind of handicapped accommodations you need. In addition to the fully handicapped accessible locations listed here, they have some that only have one or two steps, and if that is doable, then it gives you more to choose from.
Take advantage of what Yellowstone National Park has to offer for your vacation. It is your park, just as much as it is anyone else's to enjoy and explore.
