: I will be visiting yellowstone for the first time during Labor Day
: weekend and the following week. Will the park be as crowded
: on that weekend as the rest of the year or will the crowds be thinned out?

Dear Judy:
Schools in the local areas surrounding YNP start up sometime near the last half of August. This means that school has begun and fewer of the local people are visiting the park. However, during the Labor Day weekend itself, it is the last chance for local people to string a few days of time off from school and work, therefore, it is very crowded in the park then usually. Right after Labor Day, services within the park begin to close down. No more evening campfire programs and walks, for instance. This is when a lot of retired folks come to visit the park in their RV's assuming the park will be less full. If you want to camp in the RV park at Fishing Bridge, you fell like things are very crowded. If you want to camp in the campgrounds then things will be less crowded. Of course a lot depends on the weather. Anytime the weather is wet or cold nights/mornings fewer people stay in the park. This is true anythime of year. Sept. can be very wet/light snowfall is possible. Then again warm, dry weather may prevail. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Mardell Moore
