We also just returned and had better luck on the road conditions. We were at the East gate at 8:oo AM on a sunny day and at 9:00 drove in with no problem. The weather had ben dry so we did not run into problems. We arrived at Norris Campground at 10:30 and had no problem finding a site, but by 12:00 they were gone. We did get to see two bears, both grizzlies. ONe came down across the meadow, swan the river and crossed right past the cars that had gathered at that time to watch. We had been at Yellowstone 16 years ago, so were amazed at the impact of the fires, but the new growth and the wild flowers were inspiring!
