: Lately, microorganisms of interest for the biotech industry were found in Yellowstone NP. I heard about an initiative to regulate the access to those microbs in order to gain some revenue for the National Park. Is this true? Where can I get more information about it?
: Thanks.
Dear Gudrun:
I did a search of the journal index called InfoTrac and discovered some interesting articles on this topic. The best two are:"Controversy over Yellowstone's Biological Resources", ENVIRONMENT, Oct, 1996 v38 n8 p10(8) with a full set of notes and bibliography and, "There's Gold in Them Thar Pools:...", U>S>NEWS & WORLD REPORT, Dec 2, 1996 v121 n22 p81(1). The first articles cites a report done by R,(bob) Lindstron and J. (John Varley) Varley. I know Bob Lindstrom and this report could be of interest to you. Write to : Robert Lindstrom and ask for a coopy of "Biotechnological Potential and Management of Microbial Resources" Bob's at the Yellowstone Center for Resources, Yellowstone National Park, Wy 82190. Hope this info. helps you.
Sincerely,
Mardell Moore
