Ok, Ok.

Giant erupted Sunday morning 8/10 at 8:43. The last interval between eruptions was 9 days 2 hours. Because of the relatively decent time of this eruption (especially compared to the last few which all ocurred very early in the morning), a number of people were there to witness the start of the eruption.

In other geyser news, Economic Geyser had a very rare eruption on Thursday, 7 August. The eruption was seen and reported by a park visitor. This is the first eruption I'm aware of in the last decade and possibly since its five weeks of post earthquake activity in 1959. Economic was noted to have heated up considerabbly during the last year or so and there was speculation that it might have had some eruptions when no one was looking but this is the first eruption actually seen. (By the way, when this 30 feet tall geyser was active in 1959, 160 feet tall Grand geyser went dormant. Not a good trade.)

For those that are interested, these are the Giant eruptions in the last month, July 10, July 16, July 22, August 1, August 10. There have been 18 eruptions so far this year making it by far the most active year since 1955 (there were only 20 erupions from 1956 to 1995). Furthermore, it is one of the best years ever recorded in the history of the park. Giant is a spectacular geyser. Only Steamboat out performs it and only a few other very rare geysers come even close to comparing to it. For me, the current activity is frequent enough that I am planning to go to the park next weekend and wait on Giant. Everyone is welcome to come and join me. Who nows, we might get lucky.

Dave
