My personal opinion is that if Yellowstone touches your heart and affects your life as deeply as it has mine, the fires of '88 are trivial. When I visit the park, I look BEYOND the burnt trees. I look at the beauty of the mountain peaks, the powerfulness of the grizzly, the delicateness of the spring and summer flowers, the newness of seedlings that will soon create a renewed forest, the wonder of the thermal features. Fire or no fire, Yellowstone is a place that has to be discovered from within. By this I mean from within your heart and soul and from within it's heart and soul. Sure, you can look at it as a tragedy. Or you can look at it as rebirth.

Next time get out of your car and hike for a while. Get away from the crowds of people complaining about the charred trees and look around you....
