Rob,
I'm glad you had a wonderful trip. I too felt the same way about the fires of '88. I was there during the peak of the fire and was so sad seeing all the different fires going on at the same time. I felt my home away from home was going up in smoke. There were too many active fires at the time and not just in Yellowstone. '88 was a bad year every where. What griztrax was writing about from an aerial view can be seen opposite Lewis Falls. I was amazed to find un-burned trees boxed in by thin line of burned trees in several locations. The fire fighters did a miraculous job saving what they could of Yellowstone and the attractions throughout the park. I believe Old Faithful was only location to lose buildings and not to forget that Cooke City is still standing is a miracle in itself what they endured that September.

But Rob didn't you notice all the seedlings and wild flowers within the burned areas ? It was awesome to see so much life sprouting where ever it could. And the foliage now available to the wildlife. It's been one of many Yellowstone life cycles with many more to come.

A lot of lessons were learned, but mother nature had a mind of its own in '88. We are constantly learning and seeing new life. Thanks to our dedicate fire fighters, Yellowstone still exist as we have always known it; full of life, surprises and ever adjusting to our constant interference; bison management, fight to stop new roads, feeding the animals, trash left for damage. . .

Giztrax, thanks for listing your new web site. I had the old web site and thought you had signed off, because I couldn't find an active web site in the search engines. Anyway, I've enjoyed your posting along with all the other fellow Yellowstoner helping everyone out in need.

Bobbi Jo
