Hi Ron,
I would recommend staying in the park as there are not that
many daylight hours in winter, and staying in the park will give you more time
to explore, rather than travelling to and from Cody.
Accomodations are available at the Snow Lodge at Old Faithful
and at Mammoth (I think that there will a Shuttle Bus that
you can take from the Snow mobile Rental office just up the
hill from Mammoth, that can take you down into the village).
I wasn't in the park last winter, but I know that during previous
winter seasons, you could snowmobile in to a numbers of the viewpoints
at Canyon. There is usually plenty of winter traffic and there are
regular Park patrols that may be able provide assistance in the
event of a breakdown.
In past years, there were Warming Huts at Canyon, Fishing Bridge,
West Thumb, Old Faithful, Madison Junction, and Indian Creek.
Gas was available at Canyon, Fishing Bridge, and Old Faithful.
There is no guarantee that all of these facilities will be open
this winter, so it is best to contact the Park to confirm this
information.
I'm not sure about the Cellular service in the park - hopefully
someone else can help you out with that one......
