Yellowstone National Park officials announced today that recent snow accumulations have improved conditions on park roads, and oversnow vehicle access (snowmobiles and snowcoaches) is now allowed on the road from Mammoth to Norris. The section of road from Canyon to Lake remains closed today but will be ready to open to oversnow vehicle access on Sunday, January 02, 2005, at 7:00 AM.
With the opening of the Canyon-to-Lake road, all interior roads in the park will be accessible via oversnow vehicles.
The road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, to the Northeast Entrance at Cooke City, Montana, is the only road open year-round to automobile traffic. This road is subject to temporary closures, and chains or snow tires may be required at any time due to hazardous winter driving conditions.
Visitors are encouraged to call park headquarters at: 307-344-7381 for the latest road and weather conditions.
