Yellowstone National Park officials announced today that the Apollinaris Spring picnic area will close for the remainder of the season beginning Monday, September 08, 2003. Work will be occurring on improvements to the septic system in that picnic area. Visitors will still have access to
Apollinaris Spring from limited parking along the main road. The picnic area is scheduled to reopen for the 2004 season.
Apollinaris Spring is located about half way between Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin area on the west side of the park's Grand Loop Road. The Spring itself is on the east side of the road; the picnic area (the closure) is on the west side of the road.
The nearest picnic area is the Beaver Lake Picnic Area, about 3 miles north of Apollinaris Spring.
